Benefits of an (ISC)2 Information Security Certification

Pilot Testing Online Exam Proctoring

Earlier this month, (ISC)2 announced that it will offer an online proctoring pilot test for its entire portfolio of cybersecurity certifications, including the CISSP. The program would be administered exclusively through Pearson VUE, and it will assess the viability and future availability of online proctoring for (ISC)2 certification exams.

According to (ISC)2,

“In the wake of COVID-19, (ISC)2 has spent considerable time and effort to ensure the integrity of our exam process while taking into consideration that many candidates are facing extraordinary uncertainty and restrictions due to the pandemic. The pilot test program will enable us to gather the data we need to weigh the integrity and effectiveness of the exams while making them more easily accessible during these unprecedented times.”

Later, (ISC)2 announced the opening of registration for a limited number of online examinations as part of the pilot test for online proctoring. During these select dates in February, (ISC)2 will be running a pilot test for online proctored exams – 2000 exams are being made available for online proctoring on a first-come-first-serve basis. The results of this pilot will decide the possibility of future online proctoring for (ISC)2 certifications. Up until now, (ISC)2 certification exams have been available exclusively at Pearson VUE test centers, but COVID-19 had forced the test centers to close, affecting the certification exams of many. Most of these test centers are now open and have implemented health & safety measures, exploring the online proctoring possibility could be a welcome measure for thousands of (ISC)2 certification aspirants in these extraordinary circumstances.

Why is online proctoring of (ISC)2 exams such a big thing?

Online testing sounds like a pretty easy thing to do, considering how almost our entire lives revolve around the internet these days. However, it is not as easy or simple as it sounds. (ISC)2 has always placed the utmost importance on the integrity of its information security certification exams. Turning to online proctoring does put this integrity into question to some extent, and (ISC)2 is doing everything to protect it. The pandemic has put all of us through unimaginable stress and uncertainty. And (ISC)2 is committed to maintaining the effectiveness and value of all their information security certifications for not only the people who will earn it in the future but also for the professionals who have already earned them.
