Overview

A Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA®) works in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment performing a wide range of system administration functions. One can earn the credential after clearing the RHCSA Exam.

The RHCSA Rapid Track course is related to Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® 7 and is geared for learners with significant amount of experience with Linux administration. The course reviews the tasks covered in Red Hat System Administration I and II, while building on the participants’ understanding of the command-line based Linux system administration. It covers working with command using the Shell as well as work with common command options.

Configure basic IPv4 networking on Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems

Locate and interpret relevant system log files for troubleshooting

Create and use disk partitions, logical volumes, file systems and swap spaces

Schedule recurring system tasks using cron and systemd timer units

Mount network file system (NFS) exports and server message block (SMB) shares from network file servers

Configure a basic local firewall

Manage KVMs and install them with Red Hat Enterprise Linux using Kickstart

Prerequisites

Participants need to have experience working with Linux, Bash Shell (including job control, shell expansion, I/O redirection, pipes), IPv4 networking addressing and routing concepts, TCP/UDP and ports as well as navigation of the GNOME 3 interface. They also need to have experience editing text files from the command line with vim or other available programs. They should be aware of how to find information in man pages and info nodes. Participants should have a working knowledge of the concepts of file permissions. They should be able to carry out the interactive installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, perform per-user ‘at’ and ‘cron’ jobs and be able to use archival utilities like ‘tar’, ‘zip’ and compression utilities. They would also need to have working expertise of absolute and relative paths, especially finding files with ‘find’ and ‘locate’.

    Certification

    After completion of the RHCSA rapid track course, participants need to appear for the RHCSA (EX 200) examination to be a Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE). The RHCSA exam is a hands-on, practical examination. The duration of examination is 2.5 hours. No internet access will be provided during the exam and no outside materials will be permitted while taking the exam. The scores for the exam will come exclusively from Red Hat Certification Central and are usually reported within 3 US business days.
