Programming languages are among the most fundamental DevOps tools. Choosing the appropriate programming language(s) for your project is critical to achieving DevOps success and CI/CD.

With dozens of programming languages available, determining the best programming languages for DevOps may be difficult. Another concern is that the reputation of different languages differs by geographical location; this means that your impression of what constitutes the “ideal” programming language may be impacted by your location.

What is object-oriented programming?

Object-oriented programming, i.e., OOP, is a programming method that organizes software architecture around data instead of functions & logic. An object is a data field that has distinct functionalities and behavior.

OOP concentrates on the objects that programmers need to handle instead of the logic needed to do so. This programming style is ideal for large, sophisticated projects that are continually modified or maintained. This covers industrial and design software, as well as mobile apps.

Programming languages that help achieve DevOps goals

Here are some of the top OOP languages that help DevOps in achieving its goals –

  • Python

    Python is an excellent option for DevOps operations. It is primarily used as a coding language but is much more user-friendly than some other similar-level programming languages. The idea of DevOps is to incorporate automation that can improve overall performance. Python integration minimizes dependency on manual effort and effectively and seamlessly automates activities.

  • Go

    Go is an excellent choice for DevOps for multiple reasons. It is a high-performance programming language based on the C language. Go was created with the intent to make use of concurrency, which is another speed improvement. Go is also quite portable. Although Go is a compiled language, it allows you to develop applications swiftly.

  • JavaScript

    Another widely-used programming language used to create interactive and immersive web, mobile & desktop apps, and, most notably, video games. In many web-based systems, JavaScript may be used for both client-side as well as server-side scripting. JavaScript contributes significantly to the DevOps environment.

  • Ruby

    Ruby is somewhat similar to Python, although it has significant advantages. It’s an interpreted language, making it easy to apply in a variety of industrial applications. This functionality also allows Ruby to create and implement the scripts required for DevOps procedures simply. The programming language is widely used in web development and is an important part of infrastructure management.

  • Java

    Java is among the most widely used programming languages. Implementing Java in DevOps shortens the app development cycle. It is also capable of being operational shortly once the code is completed. Its adaptability makes it ideal for platform-building operations.

  • C/C++

    C/C++ are conventional computer languages that serve as the foundation for several critical technologies. It has several advantages over some other languages, including increased agility and quicker implementation. C is a traditional low-level programming language, while C++ is a superset of C with added object-oriented capabilities.

  • Perl

    Perl is a high-level, dynamic, interpreted, and general-purpose programming language. It is helpful for GUI development, processing and text interpretation, online applications, and mainstream database integration, as well as high and low-level apps.

  • Scala

    Scala has a lower learning curve since it is identical to Java, other than that, the complications encountered while executing applications on Java have been removed in Java. The programming language is made out of all of Java’s modular components.
